Scent detection is an art form in dog training that is best described as a methodology with many nuances. Two very well respected trainers who are well known for their work in scent training join us for this episode.

Jerry Bradshaw and Cameron Ford join us again, this time together, to share their ideas and techniques in scent training.

Like most trainers, both of these gentlemen have their respective style. Although we may have our preferences, we can’t deny good training and results.

Making sense of scents is a skill set that all good detection trainers should strive for. Additionally, it not only improves the dogs we train but the students we coach.

We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did.

For more information or to contact them, Jerry is at Tarheel Canine and Cameron is at Ford K9

Patience is a virtue. It’s also one of those traits many of us lose all too often. We all know we should have more of it as it serves us well in so many life aspects. Such as work, family and dog training, just to name a few.

Luck for us we have our beloved Birdy to join us on the show once again to coach both of us in patience. We know we can benefit from it as it highlights so many applications.

Just editing a podcast takes patience. There’s lots of stops and start along the way to get this content cleaned up.

But what about in dog training. When shaping new skills we have to be patient. It takes time to learn new skills for puppies and dogs or any other species.

“Beware the fury of a patient man”.

Heather Beck IACP is another interview we were fortunate enough to record while in Colorado Springs. If you don’t know Heather, you need to see what this lady can do. She trains dogs, camels and rides a bull!

If that hasn’t got your interest peaking yet, we’re not sure what will. Along with all this, she has invented her own training lead, called the Transitional lead.

You can check out more about Heather and her invention on their website, K9 Lifeline

Pocket of rocks in a glass house come from the phrase, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. We’re all guilty of it from time to time. Accusing others of the very things we do ourselves. However, some people don’t realise the damage they are doing to their own reputation.

Of course it’s a metaphor for judgemental hypocrites. The other problem here is that we often joke around about how it’s the industry. If it is prolific in our industry, how are we sustaining such a bad average?

Gardening is supposed to promote growth, not to encourage warfare. Lets practice been gardeners instead. Grow things, be useful, encourage your neighbours to do the same.

Help your neighbourhood, be useful, if you see a problem go help fix it, don’t just create more problems.

Tyler Muto Round 2. If you remember last time we had Tyler on out show, like many of guests, he got to tell us his origins. If you don’t recall his original interview, go here

Now he’s back and we get down to chatting about some odd trends.

People are bragging about how they don’t train their dogs to be obedient. Some of the the points may sound quite silly, however we go into detail with Tyler to discuss various meanings behind the claim.

Tyler is a very well educated guy and he is highly intellectual and very pragmatic. Having just finished his term as president for the IACP, Tyler is now focusing his energies on his next project, Consider the Dog.

Apart from all his accomplishments, Tyler is an all round good guy, a great ambassador for training, defender of the balanced community and one of our close personal friends.

We really enjoyed having Round 2 with Tyler Muto and we are looking forward to round 3.

Hopefully you enjoyed it as much as we did.

By the way, if you made the time to read this and you still love our show, you can support us on Patreon. Here’s the link
