In our newest podcast episode, we explore the integration of working dogs into households and address the misleading advice suggesting that these dogs disrupt home dynamics. Despite these myths, working dogs can enhance home life, especially when combined with the right remote training techniques. These methods, often misunderstood, can actually strengthen your bond with your working dog rather than hinder it..

A significant portion of our discussion also focuses on the controversial use of electric collars or remote trainers. This often brings to mind images of harsh control methods. However, our conversation sheds light on the lack of scientific evidence supporting the notion that these tools are inherently cruel. It’s crucial for dog owners to consider both the potential benefits and the proper usage of remote training devices to ensure they are used ethically and effectively.

Furthermore, we explore a rather peculiar behaviour—dogs eating their own faeces. While this may seem alarming to many pet owners, we provide insights into why this happens and how it can be managed. Understanding the root causes can help owners address this behaviour more sympathetically.

In this episode, we were thrilled to offer more in-depth responses to the queries of our esteemed audience members, who participated in the TCP discussion group and made their voices heard.

One of our audience members, George Nicholas, posed a thought-provoking question regarding the reliability of clients when it comes to using E-collars, even after being trained on their usage.

Additionally, Tracy Racich wondered about the individuals in the dog training industry who seem to possess an innate connection with canines.

Finally, Charlotte Merz inquired about the best practices for selecting the right breeder for a competitive bite-sport dog.

We love hearing from our TCP audience and it started all the way back in this episode Episode 42: Questions from our audience Part 1

A world without tools is an objective to several groups and individuals in the dog training communities. Clearly we’re talking about the training tools that some trainers choose to use during the training process.

These are tools recognised as electric or remote training collars, prong collars, correction or choke chains, martinagles, slip leads etc.

To certain groups of dog trainers, many of these are the essentials, where some or all of them are selected over the training process and used in ethical educational outcomes.

To others, they are a tormenting and diabolical to be considered at all.

In Australia we sometimes refer to a ‘tool’ as an imbecile. So we have a training industry saying that suggests, “It’s not the training tool that causes the problems. It’s the tool on the end of the lead that does that”.

Interviewing Melanie Benware in this episode was for two reasons. One, to find out a little bit more about her and her business. Two, to discuss her role as President for the IACP.

If you haven’t heard us speak of the IACP before, perhaps you are new to the show? This year we will be the official podcasters for the International Association of Canine Professionals.

As Mentioned above, Melanie has recently assumed the presidential role from our good friend, Tyler Muto.

Being the president in any organisation both comes with its advantages and its disadvantages. The main role of the president is not dissimilar than that of a ships captain. You need a great ship and a great crew to take care of your passengers.

Melanie also shares with us her role of becoming a professional dog trainer which is where all our hearts lie.

Bart Bellon on remote trainers is a story about Bart and Michael Bellon and their development of the Chameleon. The Bellon’s were involved in the early concept of remote trainers with Charles Martin and then bought the company.

Bart goes on to explain what the difference is with a Martin systems compared to other models on the market.

As many of you already know, The Canine Paradigm doesn’t shy away from talking about everything. We don’t condone stupid training or animal cruelty, even though some view remote trainers in this light.

Many feel it’s important to have an open mind, open heart approach to training. We also feel that knowing all side of the story makes the story complete.

For us, we felt it important to have Bart Bellon on remote trainers as he is one of the world authorities. Inventor and user for people in our industry, he and Michael have a sound idea on the application and design.

We know that some people will always have an opinion based in fear and in grape vine stories. We only recommend that real investigation with industry professionals at least be explored.
