The minimum effective dose can be reference to many things. You may look at it and feel that the word, dose would mean medicine or vaccine. Given the turbulent times we are all in and how much news that’s all making it would almost seem like a no brainer.

However in this context, the word dose is reflecting on amount. It was something that Pat mentioned during the episode recording which is how I, (Glenn) often come up with a name for each episode. During the edit, something either one of us says or something we have heard is the motivation behind the naming.

It closely relates to the concept of, No more one more time, which is discussed alongside this heading to remind us how to all be far better at communicating with our dogs.

Rite of passage is a ceremony or ritual of the passage which occurs when an individual leaves one group to enter another. It involves a significant change of status in society.

In this show, we discuss a little in detail about the rite of passage dog in the working dog world. For anyone who doesn’t know what that means, it’s the hardest most powerful dog.

It’s the dog that puts you on your ass and gives you bragging rights. Most sports dog groups or breeding groups know this dog and want to work it.

Grisha Stewart became very well known to the canine community after she authored her book BAT. The acronym of the book is Behavior Adjustment Training, which is mainly directed at dogs with aggression issues. As well as being an author and trainer, we got to find out a bunch of things Grisha used to do.

The great part of the podcast interviews is not only meeting and making new friends like Grisha. It’s spending time with people and hearing their back stories. How things came to be and where fate intervened.

The circle of trust goes round and round! If you have seen the movie, Meet the Fockers, the basis is about trust, or rather a lack of it.

Uncomfortable questions are a part of everyday life. Most successful relationships are based around dealing what’s uncomfortable.

Those of us in the professional dog training business know it’s unavoidable to have the occasional uncomfortable conversation.

We are no strangers to the uncomfortable questions and responses. It’s not about being nasty or looking for conflict. Many times it’s just dealing with the reality of a difficult process.

It can, if done well be a significant weight to unburden yourself of something that may be a little painful but ultimately beneficial.

Following up on being bitten takes off from episode 132 where we initially spoke about the subject. Because we had so many people reaching out that had also been bitten, we decided it would be a good idea to follow up.

So many of our listeners shared personal experiences of the personal anguish they were going through.

We had to follow up as a testimony to their bravery, as being bitten and living with the memory can be difficult.

Our listeners shared in their vulnerability, guilt and shame and how they are coping to this day.

Hopefully if you have been silent but this resonates, it will help you find some help or peace.

Coping with being bitten is quite an undertaking as it can really change your perspective. It really can be something difficult to comprehend as it feels so personal.

Being bitten can and does change your relationship with your dog as it can leave you feeling violated. It can make you question your confidence and safety with your dog and many times your ability as a trainer.

In this episode we try and make a little sense of why these things happen and give suggestions on how to cope. However, as we are not psychologists, we can only make recommendations when thoughts are too serious.

In the event you do find yourself struggling with your thoughts, we always recommend the council of a trained professional. One to examine the dogs behaviour and perhaps someone to help with your thoughts.

Dogs bite for a lot of reasons, therefore we suggest being aware of the events leading up to being bitten. Although this is a helpful suggestion, it may not always be practical.

Interviewing a new trainer should be a process that all new and existing dog owners strongly consider.

We say this because a lot of time, people end up with the wrong trainer for a range of different reasons. Many of these are because they didn’t do their homework in the first place. Other reasons include being duped by clever marketing.

It’s forgiveable to assume, big add, lots of money so they must be a great trainer. It can also mean that they are just great at marketing and average at the important part.

This really needs to be a win/win scenario which results in a great outcome for you and your dog
