My partner creates problems are words that most pet dog trainers will hear when they do lessons. You will probably ask them what kind of problems? They will generally tell you they are problems relating to inconsistency.

When it gets down to the meat in the sandwich, we generally find out that they manage to keep the dog under control. Then when the partner interacts, they allow unruliness which they feel is counteractive.

Not only does this not help the dog, it can also cause further problems in the relationship as one of the couple feels it’s unfair.

It’s a difficult position for a trainer to be involved in these problems as you feel like a relationship counsellor and not a dog trainer.

Impostor syndrome is one of those horrible nagging doubts that some of occasionally experience. Being in a position of thinking you’re an impostor can be crippling. Thinking that you will fail in front of people and they will find you out can be suffocating.

There are so many people in so many professions that go through this torment on a regular basis. The terrible truth is, they are generally incredibly competent.

An impostor is someone who is a genuine fraud. They steal identities and work from others and claim it as their own.

If you are feeling like an impostor, make sure that you are making time to speak with the right people about correcting this negative phrase.

If you are an impostor and you are fraudulent in stealing peoples work and material, it’s time to lift your game. Do something better with your life. Maybe try a healthy dose of authenticity.

Slave to genetics is a topic that comes up a lot in trainer conversations when we can’t quite explain our dogs behaviour. There are times when you just have to ask yourself why and it may just come down to genetics after all.

However, is genetics always the culprit? Are we quick to allow that to be the excuse? Could it be a case of improper understanding or input of new behaviours?

There are more than just one reason as to why both humans and dogs, (and all the other species) do what they do.

It could be genetics, it could be the control of stimuli or it could be mental impairment. It is a good reason for us to look a little deeper sometimes when we need a validation.

Shadow work with Birdy is another episode where not only are we happy to have our good friend back, it’s another deep dive into self care.

As many of you know, Birdy has spent her career learning how to help others through her training. In this episode, Birdy is encouraging us to look at what we hide in the shadow. Sometimes we don’t know why we concealed our thoughts and feelings into the shadow but none the less, we did.

As both Birdy and us agree, if you ever feel that confronting your shadow feels intense, then reduce or stop what you’re doing.

Sometimes you may need the guidance of a health care professional to assist with your thoughts and feelings.

Fortunately, you can also reach out to Birdy for guidance in this area.
